Our architecture, advisory, and implementation experience for RPA includes:

  • independent performance review and capability augmentation of systems integrators and external consultants, including WITCH and MBB firms
  • expanding the capabilites of RPA platforms beyond simple scripting and towards distributed models
  • intelligent automation systems leveraging custom AI capabilities built with TensorFlow
  • business process re-engineering: eliminating and streamlining low value-add business processes
  • custom design and implementation of Business Rules Management systems
  • automated verification & validation and systems
  • Optical Character Recognition (OCR) systems
  • blockchain-based digital ledger architectures
  • code portability improvements & ServiceNow integrations
  • change management & training
  • ISO 20022 readiness

Operations Research & Mathematical Modelling

We specialize in applying proprietary Operations Research techniques toward simulations and applications for transportation systems analysis (urban, air, ocean, highway, pick-up and delivery systems) and in the planning and design of logistically oriented urban service systems (fire and police departments, emergency medical services, emergency repair services). The strongest technical subfields within our Operations Research & Mathematical Modeling practice include:

  • multi-server queuing systems
  • network optimization
  • linear and mixed-integer programming
  • discrete, numerical, and stochastic optimization
  • nonlinear control systems such as MPC
  • chaotic systems and strange attractors
  • abstract and modern algebra
  • category theory

Biomedical Engineering

Nakamura has delivered several bespoke projects in biomedical engineering, including:

  • design of novel electromyographic prosthetic control systems that leverage machine learning to improve accuracy and performance of actuator subsystems, influencing future prosthetic designs
  • design and delivery of prosthetics and adaptive tools projects leveraging additive manufacturing techniques
  • design of microfluidics-based ELISA assay systems for use in remote field environments, leveraging swappable assay cartridges and integrated low-voltage smartphone connections to control the microfluidics system and synchronize its results over-air with an EHR system
  • design of continuous delivery platforms for the optimization of ventilator system performance as compared to digital twin lung models

High-Performance Computing

As an Industry Partner of the San Diego Supercomputer Center, and through a long-time relationship with Stanford's Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering, Nakamura has allocated significant R&D program resources into High-Performance Computing (HPC) technologies, like the proprietary Hercules HPC and FormulaOne FPGA platforms. Nakamura has delivered HPC projects mainly focused on nonlinear systems and model predictive control for clients in the healthcare, public safety, and automotive industries. Nakamura is particularly skilled at developing custom, cloud-based FPGA architectures for solving Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) problems with applications in spectral graph theory, numerical optimization, computational fluid dynamics, and online control of nonlinear systems. We also specialize in architecting digital twin simulation systems for urban and geographic environments as a preparatory step for mathematical response optimization workflows.

Advanced Electronics

For years, Nakamura has advised clients in heavy industry, manufacturing, and consumer electronics on the design and implementation of new advanced electronics products and systems. Our design, advisory, and implementation management experience ranges from hardware description, logic synthesis, and physical layout, to design and system verification & validation before ASIC. We are trusted consultants for the optimization of manufacturing plans & procedures with respect to weight, cost, and sustainability constraints, as well as additive manufacturing processes and subsystem & component procurement operations.

Nakamura has also invested significantly into research surrounding the design and implementation of FPGA-based technologies for hardware accelerators and RF systems.

Software Development

We have experience building mission-critical software applications that are ready-to-scale in Windows, Linux, and IBM AIX operating system environments. We have built applications for nearly every deployment context from cloud environments, to legacy on-prem environments, to embedded systems on edge devices. We are especially skilled in developing Java, C++, and Python applications. Our specialties from a software systems design perspective include optimization systems, recommender systems, and graph-based data processing applications.

Engineering, Procurement & Construction

Nakamura is a licensed contractor in the State of California for Classifications B - General and C60 - Structural Steel, which allows us to orchestrate a full range of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction services. We have been active in the EPC sector for more than 30 years, helping support, manage, and deliver some of the world's most complex construction projects, from pipelines, powerplants, and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities to skyscrapers and shipyards. Across our capital projects and sustainable construction capabilities, we have particular technical expertise in:

  • providing advisory services for capital projects including best practices for quality control and fabrication approaches
  • utilizing innovative, sustainable construction practices and methods such as ICF and modular fabrication to control cost, reduce project complexity, exceed LEED requirements, and minimize our impact on the environment throughout the project's lifecycle
